Health & Fitness - 15 Tips and Benefits to Get the Best of You

Exercise, workouts, wellness some of those words are familiar for you.
But how many times have you heard or said these:

  • I've no time!
  • I live in a hurry every day!
  • I'm too busy to exercise!
  • I don't know where to start!
  • Tomorrow I begin!...often never ;)
No excuse is valid; it isn't necessary to make big trainings or running marathons to have the best health possible…you're a foodie and me too, there're so many temptations..sometimes is a bit tricky.. but certainly you can achieve it :)
With small changes in your home or office you can beat your sedentary lifestyle!

Health Foods
Lets talk clear: foodies prefer to eat than to make exercise ;)…but you know I'm an amateur-personal trainer (for my friends, relatives and occasionally people I don't know…) and some of the no-phrases said before were also in my mouth as a food lover :)

I don't give the example of a friend that we begun to train together various years ago, she was with an overweight of more than 55 pounds (25 kgs).
The nutritionist told her that in 1 year you can download doing exercise and eating healthy…in only in 3 months got a normal weight, she was less tired and guess what.. eating more but in a balance way!

In a series of articles on health, nutrition and sports I'm going to expose some health guides, tips & tricks from a foodie point of view -beginning from less to more- you'll see significant progress, actually you'll be astonished :)

With Regular Physical Activity, Good Hydration & Eating Reasonably You Win:

1.- Prevent heart diseases

2.- Control and improve your blood pressure

3.- Preventing and combating diabetes (potential problem of sweet lovers)

4.- Lose weight - a delicious bonus that always come very good! Practically it's an epidemic disease in the developed world, in both adults and children

5.- Help to fight depression, anxiety, improving your mood (for the natural endorphins, substances secreted by the body during exercise)

6.- Prevent lumbar and lower back injuries; in hands and feet too (typical of runners with potential falls & sprains…I ate some, but with exercise I've minimized them)

7.- Prevention of brain problems (more oxygen in your brain is always good)

8.- Improve your self-esteem and you'll lower your stress also

9.- Improves your sleep

And the list could go on and on!!

Health & Fitness

If you aren't accustomed to have an exercise plan, you can start adding a little more movement into your daily life:

10.- In the morning or when you can, stretch your muscles.

11.- In buildings why you don't use the stairways instead of the elevator (if you aren’t hurried) for example stop the elevator 1 floor before reaching your destination. Quick and easy…

12.- Walk for 10 minutes at least 3 times a day (Read your favorite food blogs and later walk ;)

13.- When shopping or doing some tasks, park your car a few blocks before your destiny and walk.

14.- If you use public transport, pick it some blocks before or get off a few blocks to your destiny (if the day is nice there is no excuse)

15.- Dance! While you listen music dance, it's an excellent aerobic exercise (if you're at your office take care… unless you're a super dancer ;)

After you've passed certain sedentary habits, I'll be increasing the types and classes of exercises, explain different appropriated healthy foods and useful tips…I assure you from my personal experience, you won't believe it!

Note: Before start to do some "exercise" is a must to get a visit to your doctor! Yes, I'm pretty sure that you already knew it :)

I'm very interested to hear your opinions and comments about this health theme.

In the meantime don't forget to visit this sweet poll!

What a great list! I strongly believe that if one does not have a lot of time to exercise, squeezing in an hour of exercising 3 days a week will suffice!

It's important to stay in shape and make sure we have a clean diet. Which is one of the reasons why I love cooking so much. I can control what goes in the dishes!

I love #15!

If I didn't live in NYC, I would probably weight about 500lbs. Thankfully we have lots of stairs and no car, so I'm able to get a bare minimum of exercise in just by going grocery shopping. Though it would be nice to get to the gym more often.

I'm with Meg. #15 all the way!

LOL.. just kidding ...these are tried and tested (I do them all, that's why I have a fabulous straight figure... no curves.. just straight... no kidding!)

Great list! For me, I add chasing my 4-year old around the house - that always burns those extra-calories and it's fun. We also like to dance!

Great advice! I just love walking. It is easy and sustainable. I usually get at hour in everyday but sometimes I just don't feel like doing it. But on these days I go for 20 minutes because it is so important.

Those are all great. Dancing (salsa) is definitely one way that I actually don't mind exercising.

The other way I sometimes make myself exercise is to go to the gym to watch Top Chef :)

Plus, one of the best reasons for foodies to get exercising is this: If you burn more calories, you can eat more. ;)

As a foodie I prefer to eat over pretty much anything else. But I love to workout, not only because it keeps me in shape but because I can eat more! It also helps me gain weight which is my main focus. I eat very healthy and I find it hard to gain weight unless I overeat which is never fun!

@Jessie
So true what you say with 3 times per week, eating healthy you can be in shape and feel super :)
Cooking has this, you exactly know what are eating. Jessie thanks so much for your visit! :D

@Meg @Michelle
Who says that exercise must be boring..dancing is a good example ;)
Thanks for your visit Ladies! :)

@Marc @ NoRecipes
NY has so much traffic and buildings …the exercise of stairs burn a lot of kcals even more than walking. This is the problem with gym you need to prepare before going.. walk can be done easily!
Thanks for stopping by Marc:)

@Jason
These are the typical excuses but always health is first. Glad you like it and thanks for coming Jason! :)

@BB
Totally with you, life must be the first priority! it isn’t big deal to walk sometimes and the benefits are huge! Thank a bunch Bal! :)

@'Lola'
Happy you like and the leitmotiv keep moving is vital. Thanks so much Java! :)

@Mizdi
I know it's difficult to see so many tasty pics and no starving ;) A lot of people wants to be skinny like you :D …If not with junk food you gain weight very quickly - but not recommended.
Thanks so much for your visit! :)

@5 Star Foodie
Good point, following kids is a great exercise… I've the same issue with mine and kids are super-machines ;) Thanks a bunch Natasha! :)

@Natasha
To walk is the easiest exercise and not necessarily to do it as a job. If you're tired and you walk a little, you can feel better after finishing! Natasha, you're always welcome! :)

@Olga
Every type of salsa are a tremendous workout.. I mean the dancing not the yummy sauces (salsas).
Interesting combination to watch Top Chef at the gym…hehe!!
Keep up coming and thanks a lot Olga! :)

@Hugging the Coast
Both aerobic exercises are excellent. I love to swim like a fish ;) Thanks so much Doug! :)

@Rosa's Yummy Yums
Happy you find it useful. Thanks for coming by Rosa! :)

@Carolyn Jung
Shh this is the secret of the foodies more exercise implies more food..another reason to do a lot of exercise ;)
Thanks for stopping by Carolyn! :)

@The Peanut Butter Boy
The big problem with foodies that all love to eat but if we don't do some type of exercise necessarily we gain weight very fast!
Eating healthy is a must but not the only point I try to follow this line too! Thanks a bunch for coming Nick! :)

@Ben
Glad you like it and you're right, practically there isn't excuse to take care of yourself. Only you've the control of your body hence your health. Thanks a lot for stopping by Ben! :)

@Elra
Joyful that you consider it useful, truly all we must do some type of exercise, no matter what. Cheers for you Elra and thanks
for coming! :)

Great tips Gera! I think as foodies we do approach it differently as we don't regard food as fuel. I try and walk up the stairs as much as possible (although to our place, it's 16 flights of stairs lol).

Reeni♥ said...

Hi Gera, I needed this post to give me a little push in the right direction. I used to run 5 times a week and do yoga. The past four months I have lost my routine! I have been trying to get back my motivation. I have the 'tomorrow I will' do it. But this time I really will! Thanks for the post!!

Gera @ SweetsFoods said...

@Lorraine @NotQuiteNigella
Happy you like it! Foodies treat food like gems, they live to eat- no precisely only for the nutrition part ;)
Walk up stairs is a great exercise but not frequently to the 16 floor! Lorraine, thanks for coming by! :)

@Reeni♥
Wow Reeni If you used to run so many times per week your training isn't utterly lost, the body has memory you can begin again walking - jogging (not running) little by little. I had the same issue several years ago after an accident, it's possible to restart and yoga is excellent! If it were possible we can train together ;) Thanks so much for the visit Reeni! :)

Great list of such importance to so many of us. I love #15 myself, I dance all the time (especially in the kitchen while I cook). Reason---I have the radio on far more than a TV.

Eating sugary foods is a disadvantage for it can cause you to be fatty yet, more and more people are becoming addicted to it. Why not switch to foods and drinks which will not compromise your health. For instance, borba water is a healthy drink.
